English Name: Black jack, Burr marigolds, Cobbler's pegs.


Description:

Baskets medium, hemisphere-like or bell-like, single or collected in thyroid inflorescence; shell hemisphere-like or bell-like composed of external grassy and internal almost tunicates little leaves. Blossom bed with narrow bracts on it, that fall out along with the fruit. Peripheral blossoms usually hermaphrodite, tongues, yellow, sometimes missing. Fruits oblong, back oval, flattened or triangular, equipped with 2 - 4 awns and serrated with downward tabs. Annual plants with opposite leaves.

var. tripartita - All leaves 3 - 5-lobed; baskets as long as broad. Less frequently.
var. orientalis (Vel.) Stoj. , et Stef. (B. o. Vel.) - Lower leaves purposes; basket slightly longer than broad. Widespread.
Note .: Cosmos bipinnatus Cav. (Annual plants) (fatherland North America) is grown as an ornamental plant widely.
