Description:
Perennial or annual herbaceous plants or low shrubs. Leaves imparipinnate, triple or rarely simple. Stipule free or fused. The blossoms gathered in heads. Calyx bell-shaped, more or less bilabial, with 5 dumb, equal in length teeth. Corolla yellow, yellow green, pink, white, lavender, blue or variegated. Flag rounded, wings ovoid or extended. The keel bent, sharpened. Stamens twins. Ovary with many ovules. Beans composed of individual members, in cross-section is rounded or four ridged, between segments is not strangulated. The seeds linearly extended to almost cylindrical, slightly flattened, with a spike in the middle of a narrow side. Pollinated by insects, propagated by seed.

The genus Coronilla contains about 20 species of flowering plants native to Europe and North Africa.[1]
Coronilla species are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including the case-bearers Coleophora coronillae (which feeds exclusively on Coronilla varia) and Coleophora vicinella.
