English Name: Prostrate Canary clover and Badassi

Description:

Small shrubs, semi-shrubs or perennial herbaceous plants, usually fibrous, without thorns. The branches are more or less round. Leaves with 5 (4) entire leaflets, the lower two attached to the stem, resembling stipules. Stipules small, membranous, free, permanent or absent. Flowers 3 to many, gathered in apical glabrous inflorescences. Calyx bell-shaped to tubular, regular or bilobed; teeth shorter, straight or longer than the tube. Corolla white (often the little boat dark red or black), irregular, lobed. Stamens 9 + 1, fused; anthers identical. The ovary is bare. The bean is ovoid to cylindrical, its cross section elliptical or round, one to many-seeded, naked, cracked. Seeds ovoid globular or lenticular, smooth, without appendage. Insect-pollinated, propagated by seeds.

Dorycnium is a formerly recognized genus in the pea family, found in the Mediterranean and the Canary Islands. It was described by Philip Miller in 1754 in the fourth edition of The Gardeners Dictionary.[1] It is now considered a synonym of Lotus.[2][3][4]
