English Name: Hemp-nettle or Hempnettle

Description:

Annual herbaceous plants, most often with highly branched stems. The leaves are broadly ovate, ovate to lance or linear lance. The blossoms are almost seated, gathered 6 to many in densely vertebrae with many flowers, clustered in the upper part of the stem and spaced in in the lower parts. The bracts shorter than the calyx, striking, prickly. The calyx tubular bell-shaped with 10 veins and 5 prickly, almost equal long teeth. The crown is double-sided; the tube is almost as long as the calyx or longer, at the top expanded, inside with a ring of hairs; the upper lip was concave, helmet and jagged; the lower lip 3-part with a backward core portion, at the base with two dull conical, hollow growth. The stamens hidden beneath the upper lip; the outer ones with longer stems; anthers bags grooved and grooves. The nuts are back ovate, smooth, dull, truncated with a flat inner and convex outer wall, rounded at the top.

Galeopsis, commonly called hemp-nettle or hempnettle,[2] is a genus of annual herbaceous plants native to Europe and Asia. Some species are naturalized in North America and New Zealand.[1][3][4][5]
The plants are poisonous.[6] Several species are widespread weeds[2] and some are used as medicinal herbs.[7][8]
