Description:

Annual, biennial to perennial herbaceous plants. Peduncles creeping or erect, leaves sessile or of short handles, collected in whorls 2 - 4 (5 ) or sequential, entire, green in winter too, or fall off. Single blossoms in the leaf axils or collected in loose panicle, group like, loose or cumulus clusters, on the peak or growing  the bos- som of the leaves. Bracts leaf like, calyx bell-shaped, parts 5 - 7, with pointed ends, fused to 1/3 or free. Corolla right, five - seven-, corolla shares divided by base, yellow, violet, dark violet. Ovary superior, single nest like. The bar threadedlike. Stamens fused at the base around the carpophore or free. Fruit box dissol- ving the seams. Seeds numerous, irregular polygonal.

Economic importance. Plants with decorative value. In folk medicine used blossoms and leaves for tea. Some sources indicate that the ordinary loosestrife get different colors. Honey plants.
