Description:

Perennials. Bulb ovoid, simple, no small bulbs, with whitish or brown, a membranous or leathery outer skins, in the beginning the whole, and later filamentous frayed. Round stem, 30 - 100 cm tall, covered with leaves in its lower third or middle. Leaves semi-cylindrical to cylindrical, upper groove-like, 1 - 2 mm wide. Involucre ovoid, pericarp, unit suddenly tapering at the beginning exceeding inflorescence, and later broken into numerous lanceolate or less filamentous units that are long as the blossom handles or they are shorter than these. Inflorescence 10 - 35 mm in diameter, many blossoms, thick, hemispherical to spherical. Blossom handles with white membranous bracts at the base, equal to each other, or internal to 2 times longer than external. Perianth bell-shaped, 3 - 4 mm long, white or greenish, rarely pink or reddish. Perianth leaflets oblong to elongated linear, obtuse or slightly pointed, the back smooth, greenish colored and convex dorsal edge. Filament handles longer than perianth leaflets. Foreign the whole are closely linear lance,up  to top styliform, internal lobed, with share  in the middle almost twice shorter  side equal and inseparable part of the ovoid elongated filament.

Volatility

var. margaritaceum; var. typicum Regel All. Adh. Cogn. Monogr. (1875) 50. Naked and smooth plant. Inflorescence semi globular enveloped by lantsetni notes. Perianth petals white or slightly pink. Filament naked. South Bulgaria, the Black Sea coast.
var. rubellum Boiss. Fl. Or. V (1884) 240 Perianth petals reddish. Kotel Kyustendil, Kalofersko and Strandja.

Distribution in Bulgaria: It grows in thickets and dry grasslands and stony places in Southern Bulgaria and the Black Sea coast in the north to Varna. (Conspectus of the Bulgarian Vascular Flora) = conspectus&gs_l= Zlc.


Distribution: Spain, Italy, Sicily, the Balkans, North Asia to Iran, North Africa.
