Description:Annual to perennial plant, high 10 - 40 cm, hairy and often glandular. Stem branched from the base usually, in the upper part with dichotomous branching. The leaves at the base linear, linear lanceolate or shovel-shaped, usually fade and die during flowering; Stem leaves linear, pointed. Blossoms collected in bundles on 2 - 3 (8) or single. Scales in the calyx oval lanceolate, of ½ - ¾ of the length of the calyx, with a green tip, approximately equal in length to the width of the flakes. Calyx almost cylindrical, 10 - 17 (20) mm long and 2 - 3 mm wide, usually downy. Lamina of petals 7 - 10 mm in length, notched, with coarse hairs on its upper surface, top red, yellow bottom. Common in most of the Bulgaria except Danubian Plain.

Scales in the calyx approximately two times shorter than the calyx. Lamina of petals 8 -10 mm long, deep pink on both sides, rarely yellow underneath. Black Sea coast, Fore (Gabrovo), Sofia district, Vitosha district, western border mountains, Slavyanka, Pirin, Struma valley, the valley of the Mesta River, Rila, Western Rhodopes,. Average forest, Thracian Lowland, Tundzha hilly plane Strandja.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Through pastures, bushes, stony hills. Wide spread, from sea level up to about 1400 meters altitude (Conspectus of the Bulgarian Vascular Flora) = conspectus&gs_l= Zlc.
