Description:

Biennial, high, prickly plants with large, opposite leaves. Blossoms collected prickly heads, surrounded by several lanceolate leaflets; bracts as spiny leaflets. The outer cup with 4, rarely 8 edges and 4 short teeth; corolla 4-split, 4 stamens. Ovary inferior, single station, with a stylus. Leaves sessile; inflorescence oblong-ovate; bracts to top awl-like; blossoms purple, white or pink. Stem leaves purposes dull serrated edges in the nude or rare prickly spines.

Dipsacus fullonum, syn. Dipsacus sylvestris, is a species of flowering plant known by the common names Fuller's teasel and wild teasel. It is native to Eurasia and North Africa, but it is known in the Americas, southern Africa, Australia and New Zealand as an introduced species and often a noxious weed. The inflorescence is a cylindrical array of lavender flowers which dries to a cone of spine-tipped hard bracts. It may be 10 centimeters long. D. fullonum is the wild form of Fuller's teasel; the cultivated form is generally recognised as a distinct species under the name Dipsacus sativus.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Around rivers, excavation, etc., Mostly in the lower seats and less common than the next type D. laciniatus L. It grows at an altitude up to 1000 meters. (Conspectus of the Bulgarian Vascular Flora) = conspectus&gs_l= Zlc.
