Fam:   Cruciferae Juss. (Brassicaceae)
Genus:  Sisymbrium L.
English Name: Hedge-mustard

Description:

Annual to perennial herbaceous plants, more or less covered with not branched hairs, rarely bare. Leaves consecutive (the lowest in rosette), lyre-shaped feather-like divided or feather-like cut by a larger apex, rarely entire. Inflorescences clustered, initially shortened, almost thyroid, later elongated, most often without bracts, top. Sepals erect to spreads horizontally, at base without bag extension, outer under tip sometimes with horn. Petals mostly yellow, rarely white, entire, oblong-ovate with the nail. Stamens 6. Stamens filaments extended to the base, without teeth. The anthers linearly elongate with the arrowheads base. The lateral nectar glands encircle the base of the shorter stamens; the median ones outwardly compared to the longer stamens and joined to the lateral ones in a common ring. The ovary is sitting down; the style with a more or less two-parted stigma. Fruits erect to almost horizontally spreading, most often cylindrical, rarely sparsely flattened or nearly four-walled pods with convex lids and usually with 3 longitudinal veins, the most prominent of which is the middle one. Seeds most often unicellular, small, ovoid, elliptical or ovate oblong to oblong cylindrical. The seed coat is smooth, does not serve when wet. Auto-pollinated plants rarely visited by bees and flies.
