English Name: Horseheal, Swordleaf inulaDescription: Perennial plant. Rhizome thin, creeping, horizontal, branched, covered with scales. Stems single or several at the top of the rhizome, 15 - 25 (45) cm high, cylindrical, longitudinally ribbed, usually leafy almost to the top, solid, green or gray green, just fibrous to almost glabrous, less often at the top with few branches. Leaves linear-lance or lance, rarely lower narrowly elliptical, (2) 3 - 6 (9) cm long and 0.3 - 0.7 (1) cm wide, narrowed at the base, sat down, not stem-covering, rarely barely stem covering, with 3 - 7 (13) convex parallel or arcuate veins, sometimes the lower ones and with convex lateral branched veins, skin, entire, naked, short ciliate fibrous or ciliated at the edge. Baskets semi-spherical, 2.5 - 4 (4.5) cm in diameter, with many flowers, single at the top of the stem, rarely 2 - 6 (7) in loose thyroid complex inflorescences. Tegumental leaflets in 3 - 4 (5) rows, when the fruit ripens upright; peripheral linear-lance to triangular-lance, leathery-grassy, 8 - 10 mm long and 1.3 - 3.5 mm wide, ciliated on the edge, often curled backwards at the apex; middle and inner linear or linear lance 8 - 10 (13) mm long and 1 - 1.5 mm wide, membranous, ciliate at the apex. The flowers are yellow; tongue-like 35 - 40, with 7.5 - 12 mm long tongue, 1.5 - 2 times longer than the sheath leaflets; tubular numerous, 5 - 7 mm long. Fruit seeds cylindrically prismatic, cut off at the top and at the base, 2 - 2.5 mm long, light brown, finely longitudinally ribbed, glabrous. The kite of 30 - 45 white, perfectly finely serrated, fused at the base, 5 - 6 mm long hairs.
