English Name: x x xDescription: Annual to biennial plant. The root is 7 - 15 cm long, spindle-shaped, often with several short branchings. Stems 15 - 60 (85) cm high, erect, lined, simple or branched, bare or scattered to densely fibrous; hairs simple, white, protruding, 0.7 - 1.5 mm long. The leaves are narrow, lance to linear lance, 10 - 25 (-30) mm long, (1) 1.5 - 3mm wide, entire or unevenly serrated, with h hyaline wavy edges with scattered to thick simple white hairs, seldom naked, shorter on the branches of the upper stem. Inflorescence head, 8 - 20 (25) mm diameter, with numerous blossoms with 5 - 7 mm long stems, with a envelope of prickling leaflets; outer envelope leaflets narrowly lance to linearly lance, 5 - 9 (-11) mm long, 1 - 2 (2.7) mm wide, gradually tapered, often with a long hyaline tip, skinny, shallow to deeply serrated, with more or less - slightly folded solid hyaline edges. The calyx shares are linearly lance, gradually tapered, 2.5 - 3.5mm long, 0.4 - 0.5mm wide. The crown blue or purple blue; linearly lance, 6 - 8 mm long, 0.6 - 0.8 mm wide. The anthers mature at the base. The style 8 - 10 (11) mm long, with a thick, short fiber. The box is oblong to a broadly conical, 2 - 2.3 mm long, membranous, with 5 protruding narrow veins. The seeds 0.6 - 0.7 mm long, 0.3 mm wide, pale brown to deep brown, with a glossy surface.

Var. heldreichii. The whole plant fiber; leaves narrowly lance to linearly lance; inflorescence (8) 12 - 20 (25) mm in diameter. Widespread within the species.

Distribution in Bulgaria: Grow on dry grassy places, bare stony and screeched mountain slopes, along roads, sometimes in vines, on silicate terrains. Distributed (in the northern regions of Northeastern Bulgaria and the Danube Plain restricted), from sea level to 1200 (1300) m altitude. (Conspectus of the Bulgarian Vascular Flora) = conspectus&gs_l= Zlc.
Distribution: Southeast Europe (Balkan Peninsula, Romania), Eastern Mediterranean (Asia Minor).
