English Name: Northern evening primrose, Small-flowered evening-primroseDescription: Biennial. During the first year developing spindle-shaped, woody sometimes branched root, with a short stem and a rosette of leaves raised 5 - 10 cm above the ground, in the second year with a flowering stem, 1 (-2) m high, simple or short branched at the top . Rosette leaves oblong-lance, pointed, with long petioles, cut serrated, up to 16 cm long, stem leaves spaced from the stem, broadly lance, pointed at the top, on very short petioles or sessile, cut out serrated at the edge; all leaves thickened, short-scattered fibrous, light or yellow-green, often reddish. Inflorescence spike-shaped, with a bent tip; the axis is slightly edged. The flowers are 1.5 - 2.0 cm long. Sepals linear-lance, long pointed, diverging in the bud below the apex, turned back when flowering, pale green, richly covered with bristly and glandular hairs. Petals elongated back ovoid, with a short claw, cut in front or slightly serrated, dark yellow, 10 - 11 mm long, equal to the stamens and sepals. The box is up to 2 cm long, the young densely hairy. Seeds irregularly flattened, ridged, horizontally arranged.
