Fam:   Leguminose Juss. (Fabaceae)
Genus: Onobrychis Adans
Species: Onobrychis arenaria (Kit.) DC
English Name: Sandy esparcet, Siberian esparcet.

Description:

6-9 group. O. Arenaria

Perennial grasses with low or almost upright, fitting fitting fibrous or almost bare stems. losscms 5.0 - 13.0 mm long, pink with purple streaks or light magenta to almost white. Calyx clearly shorter to slightly longer than the keel; teeth 3 - 5 times longer than the tube, linear styliform, edge-fitting, rarely spread long fibrous or naked; membranous tube, naked. Flag slightly shorter, up to 1.0 - 2.0 mm longer than the keel. Wings always clearly shorter than tube of the calyx. The keel curved or bent at right angles. Beans 4.0 - 7.0 (10.0) mm in diameter, exceeds or not the teeth of the calyx or  shorter than them, goal or moderate fitting fibrous, with or without spines and teeth removed or dorsal edge.
Note. The types of the group are morphologically similar in many ways quite volatile, with introgresive trends. Nevertheless found in large and well-defined populations, but for which no data on chromosome numbers and their isolation mechanisms.

Onobrychis arenaria (Kit.) DC

O. arenaria (Kit.) DC., Prodr. 2 (1825) 345; Hayek, Prodr. Fl. Penins. Balc. I (1926) 928; Ball. FL Eur. II (1968) 190; Exs .: PI. Bulg. Exsicc, № 565; Hedysarum arenarium Kit. in Schult., Ősterr. Fl. ed. 2 (1814) 368 - Sand sainfoin

Perennial loose tussock-like plant. Rhizome oblique or upright. Stems ascending to lying, in the upper part branched, ribbed, naked or fitting fibrous, most often reddish in its base. Яtipule 4.0 - 8.0 (10.0) mm long, triangular wedgeр on top styliform pointed, tunicates, mid reddish streak. Leaves 3 times shorter sprouts handles. Sheets 5 - 12 pairs (7.0) 10.0 -15.0 (20.0) mm long and (2.0) 3.0 - 4.0 (5.0) mm wide, elliptical, linear lance or lance elliptical, at the top bare, at the bottom on the fibers dispersed fibrous, the tip awned. The inflorescences closely fusiform or cylindrical spindle (3.0) 5.0 - 8.0 (10.0) cm long, often hooded, with beans even more elongated, diluted blossms. Bracts scaly, tunicates to 1/2 of the length of the tube. The blossom handle longer than the length of the tube or equal to it. Blossoms 6.0 - 7.0 (9.0) mm long, densely arranged. Calyx 1.0 - 4.0 (5.0) mm long, 1/2 of the length of the  corolla up to clearly longer than it; bell-similar tube; The teeth of the calyx linear lanceolate, the edge or fitting off-standing semi fiber, (2) 2.5 - 3 times longer than the tube of the calyx, unequal to each other, at the base with a long fitting cloth. Corolla pink or light purple. The flag (16.0) 17.0 - 18.5 (19.0) mm long and 6.0 - 6.5 (7.0) mm wide, back ovoid, elliptical to nearly circular, the top is slightly concave or entire, at the base with barely noticeable claw or without, with purple streaks and clear a mean streak. Wings shorter than the flag and half shorter than the calyx,  lamina is elliptical lance, short peaked, 2 times longer than the nail, the tab is shorter than the nail. The keel is longer than the flag, suddenly in a little more than the right angle curved, tip tapering short; lamina 3 times longer than the nail. Beans 4.0 - 6.0 (7.0) mm longer and wider than the calyx or equal to her, short-fitting fibrous or naked, sculpted side latticed often toothed; trumpet edge with 3 - 8, 0.5 - 2.0 mm in length teeth.

Note. Bulgarian populations are characterized by considerable variability in the degree of cover with cloth and the number of teeth on the dorsal edge of the beans, the sheets and along teeth of the calyx. The latter are mostly longer than 2.0 - 2.5 mm, are aligned with those of O. lasiostachya, where you often found considerably shorter tines. Therefore, this rather used by the authors scar our populations belonging to these two species can be distinguished well and it should be used in limited quantities. Besides these diagnostic features to distinguish these two types, they can distinguish recurrent and semi tussock-similar type, almost always accompanied by lower growth of O. lasiostachya.
