Fam:   Rosaceae Juss.
Genus:   Rosa L.
Species: Rosa vosagiaca Desportes
English Name: Whitish-stemmed Briar

Description:

ђ. Shrub. Stems 1.5 - 2 m tall, often with arched and hanging branches with reddish crust, mostly with bluish paint. The spikes vary, in the main perennial stems, sickle-shaped or straight, with a very broad base, on the young twigs small, fewer and less curved. Leaves 5 - 15 cm long; leaf stems mostly naked, with several small spines and single glandular lobes. Stipule with curved outward peaks, nude, end glands. The leaflets (5) 7 (9), most often elliptic, rarely ovate or round, at the base rounded, pointed at the top, bare, on the underside of bluish-green, sharply irregularly seldom, rarely with single glands. Flowers 4 - 5 in the inflorescence; flower stems 6 - 7 mm, long hidden in a well developed bracts, no longer than the hatch, usually smooth, rarely glandular bristles. Sepals with linear or lance side appendages, on the inside, naked and smooth, of the outer fibrous, after blossoming they are lifted and remain stretched or erect, in mature fruits are preserved. Petals bright pink. The top of the styles and the stigmas collected in a stacked fibrous head. Fruits broadly ellipsoid to spherical ovoid.

Business importance. Fruits are a good raw material for the food industry. They contain vitamin C on average 490 - 738 mg% of raw mass.

Note. Vosagiak's rose hips show a large polymorphism in its population, due to its easy hybridization with the common rose and other loved ones. It also manifests differences in the individual development of bushes, under different environmental conditions. For these reasons there is a variation in the shape of the leaves and fruits, the position of the seals on the hatch, the quantity of the spikes, the hairs and the glands. Therefore, intra-species taxa, built on these signs, should be dropped.
