Fam: Primulaceae Vent.
Genus: Soldanella L.
Species: Soldanella hungarica Simonk.
English Name: Hungarian snowbells
Description:
Perennials. Rhizome shortened, oblique, threadlike. Stem 5 - 20 cm tall, 1 - 5 mm diameter, at petal fall extending with 1/3 to the top gradually compressible, glandular long fiber. Leaves 2.0 - 4.8 cm long, 2.0 - 5.5 cm wide, kidney, slightly leathery, above naked irregularly verrucose or smooth, green, bare bottom, purple, incorrectly wavy on the edge, 2 - 9 cm long, continuous long glandular hairy stem. Umbel feathery, the blossoms 2 - 5, bracts 3 - 5 mm long, 1.0 - 1.5 mm in clear width, lanceolate, long glandular pubescent. The stems of the blossoms 2 - 5 mm long, after petal fall elongate, 4 - 5 glandular cell fibrous. Calyx 2.5 - 4.0 mm high, 2.2 - 3.0 mm wide, shares 5, lanceolate, long glandular pubescent. Corolla 12.5 - 18.0 mm long at its widest part 8 - 15 mm wide, bell-shaped; corolla shares hackly to 1/2 or 3/5 of 3 - 4 shallow incised and deeper ribbon on top tapered blue violet partition. Staminal handles short glandular. The basis of the anthers rounded. Box 8 - 14 mm high, 3 - 4 mm wide, narrow conical and opening with 8 - 10 cut teeth, goal. Seeds 1.2 - 2.0 mm long, 1.0 - 1.5 mm in clear width, irregular polygonal vaguely sculpted mesh with hazy membranous edge.
Remark. Compared to the Carpathian (S. Pawl., 1963) the altitudinal range of our population is narrowed. They develop in the interval 1500 - 2700 m altitude. When the lower limit of this range can be expected to find subsp. major-(Neilr.) S. Pawl, Which has not been established in the country. From a morphological point of view, especially interesting is the populations of Vitosha mountain. Among them are observed individuals whose indumentum of stem meets the type "alpina", and the stem of the leaves type of "hungarica". Our data confirmed the opinion of S. Pawlowska, that S. alpina is not found in Bulgaria. However indicates S. dimoniei Vierch. (S. Pawl. 1. C.). This species is morphologically similar to S. hungarica s. sir., but differs from it in the cover of the leaf lamina and the cutting of the corolla .
Weak traces of type "alpina" among populations of Hungarian snow-edge bell can be seen as a result of old hybrid contact tetraploid level or parallel mutations.
Flowering Time: Blooms : VI-VII, fruitful : VI-VII.
