Perennial plant. The roots are vertical, branching. Stems herbaceous erect, ascending at the base, single or numerous, branched at the top, 15 - 50 cm long, with different density of simple (0.15 - 1 mm long) hairs. Leaves herbaceous, sat down in vertebrae or on 2 - 5 mm long petioles, ovate to oblong-ovate, 8 - 27 (74) mm long, 4 - 15 (26) mm wide, feathery-like, double- feathery-like, endowed, with 0.5 - 4 mm wide leaf shares, serrated or simple, covered with simple (0.1 - 1 mm long) hairs of different densities; leaf edge bent to the lower surface, rarely flat. Inflorescences long loose 2 - 7 cm clusters; inflorescence axis with different in density simple (0.1 - 1 mm long) hairs. Bracts lance, entire, rarely 3-lobed or with two teeth at the base, 2.5 - 9 mm long, 0.8 - 1.5 mm wide, with simple (0.1 - 1 mm long) hairs, rarely mixed in threecellular (0.03 - 0.04 mm long) glands or glabrous. Flower petioles 3 - 8 mm long, covered as the axis or with threecellular glands of the same type, rarely glabrous, elongated and adjacent to the axis of the inflorescence during flowering. Calyx partitions 5, only in single flowers rarely 4, linearly lance to acuminate, rarely with teeth at base or 3-lobed; small 2 - 4 mm long, 0.4 - 0.9 mm wide; large 2 - 6 mm long, 0.5 - 1 mm wide, entirely on the edge or only at the top with simple (0.1 - 1 mm long) hairs, rarely mixed with three-celled (0.02 - 04 mm long) glands or naked. Corolla 8 - mm wide, blue, blue with a pink tinge to light blue. The style is 3 - 5 mm long. Box 3.5 - 6 mm long, 3 - 3.5 mm wide, back ovoid to back heart-shaped or rounded, with rounded base, slightly double convex, entirely or only on the edge with simple (0.9 - 1 mm long ) hairs or naked; notch about 0.5 mm, acute. Seeds 0.3 - 0.5 mm long, numerous, brownish, paniculate, slightly warty, 0.3 - 0.25 mm wide.

Veronica austriaca, the broadleaf speedwell,[1] large speedwell,[2] Austrian speedwell, or saw-leaved speedwell, is a species of flowering plant in the plantain family Plantaginaceae, native to northern temperate Europe. Growing to 90 cm (35 in) tall by 60 cm (24 in) broad, it is a mound-forming herbaceous perennial, with deeply toothed leaves and erect spikes of bright blue flowers throughout summer.[3]
The specific epithet austriaca refers to Austria within its native range.[4]
