Perennial plant. Rhizome thin, branched. Stems several, erect or raised, with short internodes, bare or two longitudinal lines, with short, backward-facing bristles, 10 - 25 cm high, at the base with 3 - 10 cm long, underground, rarely aboveground shoots with small leaves. Leaves entire or lateral with 1 - 3 spaced, shallow, obtusely cut teeth, glabrous or on the petioles, edge and veins to the middle of the leaf blade shortly bristly; lower rounded ovate to oblong-elliptical, 5 - 8 mm long, 2 - 4 mm wide, with 1.5 - 2 times longer than the petioles of the petals, dried up during flowering; middle oblong-bladed or narrowly spatulate, 10 - 13 mm long, 2 - 4 mm wide, pointed, wedge-shaped narrowed at the base in 4 - 8 mm long winged petiole; upper linear to lance to linear, 7 - 25 mm long, 1.5 - 2.0 mm wide, pointed, with 2 - 4 mm long petiole. Stipules glabrous, rarely short-bristled at the edge, palmately divided at the base; on the middle and upper leaves 15 - 25 mm long, 10 - 20 mm wide, divided into 4 - 6 linear pointed sections, the middle slightly larger, often forked in its upper part. Flower petioles 6 - 15 cm long, glabrous, with bracts below the curve. Flowers 1 - 3 (6) per stem, single in the axils of the middle and upper leaves, back trapezoidal, 1.5 - 2.5 cm high, 1.5 - 2.4 cm wide, with odor. Sepals oblong-lance, pointed, with appendages 10 - 12 mm long, 1.5 - 2.0 mm wide, glabrous; appendages rectangular or trapezoidal, often serrated, 3 - 4 mm long. Petals yellow, rarely upper and lateral blue-violet or reddish-brown at the end, back ovate; upper spread back and sideways, 12 - 16 mm long, 8 - 10 mm wide; lateral 11 - 14 mm long, 7 - 8 mm wide, at the base with cilia and 3 longitudinal violet veins, curved sideways and to the upper - overlap them significantly (up to 1/4); lower more intense yellow, often orange, broadly back heart-shaped, together with the spur 18 - 25 mm long, 12 - 15 mm wide, incised at the apex, at the base with 5 dark purple veins, narrowed into 3 - 5 mm grooved claw and 5 - 8 mm long, pale purple, thin, cylindrical, directed upwards, most often straight, 2.5 times longer than the calyx spur. The ovary naked; the style is curved from the base, extended upwards; the stigma entire, spherical, with cilia on top and tufts of hairs on the side under the lip. The box is oblong-ovate, ribbed, 10 - 11 mm long, 6 - 7 mm wide, pale brown, naked. Seeds yellow-brown, ovoid, 1.5 mm long, 1 mm wide; the appendage is short.
Volability
var. rhodopeia. Stem 10 - 25 cm high, with 0.5 - 3.0 cm long internodes. The leaves are spaced. Rila (eastern slopes of Belmeken peak, Kurtovo), Western Rhodopes (Beglika, Tashboaz, Dospat region).
var. congesta Delip., var. n. in Addenda. Stem 3 - 5 (8) cm high, with strongly shortened, 0.2 - 0.5 cm long internodes. The leaves close together. Distribution in Bulgaria: Growing in moderately humid meadows and pastures in the mountains. Rila (eastern slopes of Belmeken peak, the sources of Kriva reka, Kurtovo), Western (Beglika, Tashboaz, Dospat region) and Middle (Perelik) Rhodopes, from 1300 to 2400 m above sea level. Endemic.
